After the outbreak of COVID 19, one important necessity was to develop rapid testing technology. The traditional means for viral testing employed principles of biochemistry. The biochemical solution was limited in how quickly it could be deployed and how it could deal with the chain of downstream variants as the virus mutated. A group, including John, was formed to deal with this issue. Working in consultation with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the group extended a patented nascent optical physics solution which had been successful for detecting certain virus and bacteria. Using principles of Raman Spectroscopy, the solution was successfully extended to COVID 19 and its variants. John’s background in intellectual property, biotechnology, and physics was central to the endeavor.
